Alexander Befelein
Alexander Befelein, painter and watercolorist
Befelein was born in Bremen, Germany in 1952 but spent his youth in Nuremberg.
In 1971 he moved to Munich where he studied fine art. In 1977 he traveled to Italy, England and Yugoslavia to continue his study. He received his degree from the University of Munich in 1981 and began his career as an artist and teacher.
During the early 80’s he took short trips to Vienna, Venice and the south of Tyrol, filling many sketch books with renderings of well-known sites in each city. Subsequent trips to Switzerland, Venice and Vienna inspired Befelein to experiment with the medium of watercolor, and he quickly mastered it.
But he remains best known for his subtle etchings of the cities he has visited, capturing in a few delicate strokes the essence of place.
Since 1977, he has regularly exhibited in numerous galleries in Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria, Japan, and the United States. His work is recognizable throughout the world and has been received with enthusiasm.
Aldo Bertolini
Born in Salsomaggiore, Italy in 1951
Bertolini’s academic background was in Economics, although he always had a strong interest in art, particularly contemporary art. He began his artistic studies while working in the studio of Roman painter, Bruno Aller, where he met Italian masters such as Achille Pace, Luigi Boille, and Nini Santoro, among others.
In 2002, he, together with Bruno Aller and painter Marisa Facchinetti, founded the group “I Diagonali”. That same year they opened their gallery in Rome, Galleria Arte e Pensieri. Bertolini has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including the following since 2000:
“I paint maps, trace lines which break, which divide and multiply themselves in interrupted pathways... I choose towns because it comes into being as a meeting point of the ethical and mutual knowledge principle: where the city exists, is his language, his choice, where he decides how to be in life and thus in his project.
In the city the possibility of being, or no longer being, unfolds and withers...”

Wendy Chazin
Wendy Chazin, born in New York City, is a graduate of the Boston University School of Fine Arts, the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and Rutgers University in New Jersey. Although she began her artistic career as both a sculptor and painter, by the early 1980s, she concentrated her efforts primarily on painting and lithography. She spent the years from 1980 to 1988 in France, where she established a studio in Marseille in the heart of Provence, and in Japan, where Editions Vision Nouvelles commissioned, exhibited and sold her work. She traveled frequently to Paris, where she created her lithographs. Her harmonious compositions, defined by strong color contrasts, are reminiscent of Matisse and are in the tradition of contemporary French painters who followed him. Chazin currently lives and works in New York City.

EDUCATION
Guyon studied at the Beaux Arts de Nantes in the late 60's; which is also when he began his study in theatre. Guyon is passionate about Opera, music and art, and began designing sets, costumes and show posters early on in his career. He studied under M. From 1970 to 1980, he designed sets for many operas, including those performed at the Jean Marais festival, the Francis Huster company, the Treteaux de France as well as several summer festivals, including Saumur and Chinon. His reputation as a set designer was well established at the Opera of Angers. Guyon is also respected as a talented painter. He has exhibited his works at the Opera in Angers, and in his home town of Nantes, as well as in galleries around the world. His paintings are known for their marriage of poetic colors with vigorous brush strokes. He frequently paints scenes from his favorite operas, dancers and cabaret performers.

Koury’s works are held in numerous major corporate collections nationwide, including Eastman Kodak, Kaiser Permanente, MCI, Metropolitan Life, Exxon Chemicals, Clorox, USAir, Morgan Stanley, Grubb and Ellis, Nordstrom and Xerox, as well as in Japan, Hong Kong, France and Germany. He currently lives in California.
Aleah Koury comes from a diverse artistic background, with a Bachelor Degree in Ceramics, and a Master’s in Printmaking. This has encouraged him to be bold in experimenting with new materials and imagery. At various times he has incorporated collage, printing, found materials and a variety of different types of paint media in his work.
A gifted colourist, over the past decade Koury has increasingly been drawn to pastel as the purest expression of the colourist’s art. By the late 1980’s Koury had made a national reputation with a series of abstracted landscapes called “Skyscapes”. In these works the gesture of the artist and the full brilliance of colour are revealed in the unclouded intensity of the raw, pastel pigment.
Koury has further stretched the expressive possibilities of pastel by combining it with enamel and latex paints, gold, bronze and silver leafing, oil pastel and pencil to create works of spectacular richness and texture. The “Gardens” and “Floral Still Life” series draw inspiration from the 19th century French master Odilon Redon as well as Koury’s own California garden and particularly the exotic orchids, which he cultivates.
Koury has also turned to the subject of Koi, producing works in which the brilliant colours of the fish appear as dramatic visual counterpoints against the soft colour-field abstraction of the water.
Koury has also continued to work in a completely abstract idiom and his series of abstracts works: “Organic Geometry” and “Way of Things” mark a new and typically bold departure from his earlier work.
Aleah’s most recent body of work include: “Oh Happy Days” based around exquisite hand-made papers from Tibet. These papers are sewn onto backing paper & combined with copper plate & other materials. Aleah’s experiments with burning, rusting, oxidized & patinated finishes is carried even further in these works, resulting in pieces of unparalleled delicacy & beauty.
In all these works it is the uninhibited sensuality of colour that is the true subject, whether found in the beauty of the natural world or the poetry of the imagination.
Aleah Koury was born in Bellingham, Washington, and spent his early childhood in California before moving to the Midwest. In 1975, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia and in 1980 a Master’s from the University of Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. Since that time Koury has lived in and around San Francisco and the Bay area, recently moving to a small ranch on the Central Coast area of California.

Courtland Swartz
Courtlandt M. Swartz, born in 1993 is a Toronto based artist and recent graduate from Ontario College of Art and Design. His artwork has explored many styles and mediums including this unique process of casting sculpted forms of paint within clear prisms of hand cast acrylic glass. This technique has been refined by artist Courtlandt Swartz over the course of several years, and is unlike any other.
Courtlandt Swartz suspends sculptural forms of acrylic paint within prisms of hand cast acrylic glass. Selectively affecting the surface clarity allows internal elements to be concealed and revealed. There is no single or immediate way to experience the piece. Every angle exposes a different refraction of the brushstrokes contained in the sculpture. Having a longstanding background in realist painting has inspired Swartz to move into three-dimensional space, searching for a medium that provides multiple images simultaneously.
Mikio Watanabe
MIKIO WATANABE was born in 1954 in Yokohama, Japan. He completed his studies in Tokyo in 1977 and settled in Paris, where he learned engraving techniques at the Atelier 17 in Paris. Since 1981, Mikio Watanabe has focused on mezzotint and his works can be found in many public collections including Bibliotheque National in Paris, the Central Academy of Art, Kuala Lumpur and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
